Is this considered a health risk
Our house is in terrible condition. The flooring is so bad if you walk
across the house barefooted it turns our feet pitch black, I've never seen
carpet so disgusting, if feels wet and sticky and smells really bad.In our
living room the walls give if you lean on them, the bulge in place and are
extremely concaved in others. The bathrooms ceiling tiles are falling down,
and they and the walls are covered in mildew. We shower with the door open
and the window stays open but the room is always very moist. The Linoleum tiles in the bathroom are peeling off the floor and I am worried about what the floor looks like under them, the faux tile panels in our shower are bowing out and I am sure that the wall behind them must have water damage for it to be doing this.I've been going through this with my realtor forover three months now, and all weve had was their handyman come out and take measurements, and we never heard a thing back.We rent this house and I am expecting a baby in January, and this house is not fit. What are my options? That does not help me at all. How can l move out if l still have at least 6-7mo on my lease? l do not know if its grounds to break the lease or not.
Why did you except it in thsi condition in the first place.
The health issue is the carpeting, but it sounds like a housekeeping
issue, which will happen whereever you live. If you don't keep it clean
it will get bad.
While most of us would not choose to live like this, it is legal for you to make that choice, & obviously you saw teh place & thought ''Home Sweet Home''. You can not break ur binding contract just because you have now decided that maybe you don't like it so well after all.
Call the board of health or the housing inspector in your
community and get them to come out and inspect what is going on. If they
issue a health code citation, it will put more pressure on the landlord to
make it more habitable, and if he does not, will give you documenation
necessary to break your lease.
the landlord is breaking the lease by renting you a place that
isn't safe to live in. why would you rent this place to begin with? move
out fast. you can not raise a baby in a house like that. it is sad that
you let yourself live in a place like that.
what state are you in?
Remember if you seek to breach the lease and leave before the
fixed term lease has expired and the landlord refuses to let you out of
the lease; It will be your legal burden if sued in court for rent to show
to the court the condition of the home was a material breach on the
landlords part, but the legal burden is on you to demonstrate to the
court, therefore you will need more then your opinion alone to present to
the courts
If you're insured, let it burn. If you're tough enough, 2nd
degree burns will greatly increase your chance of success.
You have 1 option.. Move out.
